Movin' on Up: New Certifications with National Instruments
Our new deck isn't the only way we're expanding our ceiling here at DMC.  We're very proud to build on our technical dominance with new LabVIEW certifications! Congratulations to our newest LabVIEW Certified Architects, Jesse Batsche and Danny Budzinski! They join Leon Grossman, Jody Koplo, and me on DMC's team of experts.  The coveted LabVIEW Architect status is the highest possib... [Read the rest of this blog...]
It's here!! NIweek 2011
It's great to be back in Austin Texas for the annual National Instruments NIweek conference. Today is the first official day of the conference, where the largest ever audience (3300 people!) will be introduced to the latest products, trends, markets, and emerging technologies. We kicked things off at Alliance Day yesterday, where the day's keynote and sessions are dedicated to NI's partner netwo... [Read the rest of this blog...]
More racing fun with friends at Argonne
DMC teamed up with our friends at Argonne National Labs for a fun-filled night of dinner and go-kart racing. We started out at one of our favorite spots, the Kerry Piper for some great Irish food, then headed to Melrose Park Grand Prix' new location for the real action.  (Note, the smartest of the bunch ate light for every advantage on the track!) This was a great way of celebrating another... [Read the rest of this blog...]

DMC exhibiting at the National Instruments Technical Symposium
DMC will join leading companies to host the National Instruments Technical Symposium that builds on the success of NIWeek, the worldwide virtual instrumentation conference and exhibition held annually in Austin, Texas, where the company is headquartered. NIWeek 2010 concluded in August with attendance of more than 2,500 people, who participated in hands-on training, interactive technical sessions,... [Read the rest of this blog...]
NIWeek 2010!
DMC is hitting the ground running at NIWeek 2010.  "It's Time".  This is the theme of the keynote of the first official day of NIWeek.  Time to develop, real-time control, timing for data synchronization, time to market,  everything that involves time, and how NI products can help. This is the first official day of the conference, but the second for DMC, as again this... [Read the rest of this blog...]
Energy Storage Research and Development: Two New Case Studies
At DMC, we're happy to be working hard at the cutting edge of emerging Energy Storage devices.  Many of the systems we've recently architected and delivered are world-class manufacturing test systems for Batteries and Smart Battery Packs. Another aspect of our work is further upstream, in the realm of Research and Development.  Two new case studies cite specific and extensive work that ... [Read the rest of this blog...]
RT-301: Capabilities of Distributed LabVIEW Real-Time

Eric Nielsen’s Real Time blog did a good job of hitting the major strengths and benefits of any system based on a controller running a Real-time operating system.  Here I’ll get into a little more depth, specifically for the capabilities these systems give in regards to distributed execution.

DMC Volunteers with US First Robotics Competition
DMC was happy to be a part of the FIRST FTC (First Tech Challenge) high school robot competition here in Chicago.   John Sullivan and myself with Chris Weaver of NI braved the fierce field of competition to assist as, you guessed it, Software Inspectors.  Our role was to ensure the science and technology-interested high schoolers had done their homework and had a functional, u... Automotive Testing Expo 2009
Today I had the chance to peruse more cutting edge testing technologies at the Automotive Testing Expo 2009 in Novi, Michigan.  It was good to meet a few new vendors and peers, as well as run into a couple existing clients.  Though apparently smaller than last year, the show has a lot to offer, including a robot-mounted Harley Davidson motorcycle (don't worry, it only rides on the d... Battery Power 2009
I'm looking forward to attending the Battery Power 2009 conference next week in Denver, Colorado. "This seventh annual event will feature more than 30 presentations on portable, stationary and automotive battery technology, as well as battery manufacturing, materials and research & development. Topics will include new battery designs, emerging technologies, battery materials, power management... [Read the rest of this blog...]
I'm happy to say the solution has been found for a frustrating Microsoft Word bug. Problem:  Any Word 2007 document that uses Doc Variables will corrupt those values when the file is saved (yeah, nice).  Anyone who has written custom macros that manipulate Doc Variables will run into this. Cause: A security update (KB969604) first caused this problem to surface. Solution:  Micros... [Read the rest of this blog...]

Every summer, National Instruments holds the NIWeek conference in their home town of Austin TX.  This year, DMC has three of us attending:  Jesse Batsche, Eric Nielsen, and myself. Monday was “Alliance Day”, tailored to NI Alliance Members, as well as the day for various closed sessions, such as the Big Physics conference to address technologies and trends related to large scale physi... Tips for CAN: Dynamic Frame Definition with National Instruments NI-CAN
Back in the stone age (i.e. NI-CAN 1.2), us LabVIEW 6 programmers had to write our own parsing routines for dynamically-specified data inside a CAN frame.  At the driver layer, we were locked-in to only one layer of arbitration.  An oft-overlooked but extremely powerful feature in  contemporary versions of the NI-CAN drivers handle this automatically. Example:  a BMS... [Read the rest of this blog...]
