Facial Hair Fridays at DMC
We have a lot of fun working in the DMC office - often if you're not laughing, it's because everyone else is laughing at you, not with you. As a New Year's Resolution this year I decided to grow a beard. It looked terrible. I became the butt of many jokes coming to work every morning looking more and more like that kid you went to high school with who needed to shave for the first ... High-speed Position Latching using Yaskawa's MotionWorks IEC
I was recently working on a multi-axis Yaskawa-based motion control project and ran into an issue using an in-software position latch. In this case, we were running a servo at fairly high speed and trying to record the encoder position when a sensor was triggered. But it turned out that the PLC scan rate, servo speed, and gearing ratios involved were resulting in unacceptable accuracy issues... [Read the rest of this blog...]
Create a Photo Booth with Your Canon DSLR
I attended a wedding a few months back where the bride and groom had rented a photo booth. With a combination of props and wine, there were many great photo strips being printed and passed around and it quickly turned into quite the contest. Naturally, I won. It seemed like a great idea – the guests were really enjoying themselves and the bride and groom kept a copy of each strip to put into a pho... [Read the rest of this blog...]
DMC Goes Kayaking on the Chicago River
While we spend a lot of time together here at the office, we also try to organize fairly frequent DMC outings. Since we tend to be fairly active people, our summer events seem to skew in that direction as well. In the past few months we’ve entered a few races here in Chicago (Shamrock Shuffle, Chase Corporate Challenge, and the Terrapin 5k), played in a sand volleyball league at North Beach, had a... VBA Scripting in MS Office Made My Day
I learned a new trick this morning that made my day. It not only managed to save me quite a bit of time, but it also opened up a brave new world full of possibilities for the future! Ok, so it's not really a trick. And chances are many of you frequently use it already. But it was new to me! For a project i was working on this morning, I was using a rather large Microsoft Visio document... [Read the rest of this blog...]
Application Programming with Yaskawa’s A1000 Inverter Drives
I recently had the opportunity to spend a few days at Yaskawa America’s North American headquarters to sit in on an A1000 Application Programming class. As a YaskawaSolution and Service Provider PLUS, many DMC engineers have extensive application programming experience using Yaskawa’s inverter drives in the industrial workspace. In addition to being a Yaskawa Solution and Service Provider, we have... [Read the rest of this blog...]
First Impressions
This week marked the end of my first three months here at DMC. And they've been busy months. Every project I've worked on has involved a technology that, prior to joining DMC, I'd never worked with before. So there has been a lot of learning on the fly as I've been ramping up. Fortunately, we have an incredibly collaborative atmosphere here at DMC. And I've quickly learned that if I run across som... [Read the rest of this blog...]
