DMC Office Expansion Construction Kickoff
DMC is expanding again! After relocating to our office at 2222 N. Elston Avenue last year we quickly outgrew the space and needed to take over more of the building. Rather than a traditional ground breaking ceremony, we decided to have a wall destroying party.  So, a couple of weeks ago, after the previous occupants moved out, we took out some of our aggressions on a hapless partition wall w... DMC FedEx Day Redux
After the success of DMC's first FedEx Day earlier this year, we were excited to hold our second edition a few weeks ago. A FedEx Day is reserved for everyone to devote an entire day working on a company improvement project that personally inspires them. It's called a FedEx Day because the person or team must deliver something the next day, although there is some upfront prep t... Most of our blogs are about things we've already done or projects we've already completed.  A fairly recent Freakonomics podcast talked about "The Folly of Prediction," and, being a pretty strong believer in Freakonomics wisdom, I'm not one to make bold predictions. With that said, there are some exciting things that will be happening with a fair degree of certainty over the next severa... [Read the rest of this blog...]
DMC's Oktoberfest Open House
On October 20th we hosted an open house at DMC's new office for our first ever Oktoberfest.  Since I've heard that a picture can be worth 0b1111101000 words, I figured I'd save most of my prose and let the pictures below do the talking. Also, there's a really exciting video at the bottom if you want to just skip to that.   *Click an image to enlarge   Anjali at the welcome tab... [Read the rest of this blog...]
Ziplining and Customer Service
A few times each year DMC holds an all-day company meeting. It's a chance for all of our team members to discuss our goals and have some fun together. Past meetings have taken us anywhere from Chicago's waterfront, to an improv session, to the Melrose Park Grand Prix. For our most recent all-day company we chartered a bus and took the entire to the treetop canopies of Wisconsin. On the trip... [Read the rest of this blog...]
DMC's Quinceañera
About a year ago, I wrote a blog on DMC’s fourteenth anniversary, looking back on our first 14 years. Now, DMC has reached its fifteenth year, and at this time of our quinceañera, so to speak, I wanted to again reflect on where we've been. Since I can’t rewrite my blog from last year, I figured I would mix it up a bit and talk about some of the fun things that DMC has done over the last year or s... [Read the rest of this blog...]

DMC is on the Move
After seven years, DMC is moving at the end of April.  The primary reason for the move is more space, as we are continuing to grow. Our new address. which will be communicated multiple times in the coming months, is: 2222 N. Elston Avenue 2nd Floor Chicago, IL 60614 Benefits of the new space include better parking for our customers, a rooftop deck, a really cool interactive dis... [Read the rest of this blog...]
DMC's Logo Evolves
As part of our first FedEX day, DMC unveiled an exciting new logo and tagline!  Check it out below, as we reflect on past designs and the evolution of DMC. 1996 - 1998 This logo came from a business card software program, and it took about 2 minutes to select and design the card.  Note that we started off with c... DMC Holds our 1st FedEx Day
For those of you who follow our blog (according to Google Analytics there are quite a few), you'll recall that we started a Business Book Club a few months back. The 1st major action we took was an idea from the book Drive by Daniel Pink called a FedEx Day.  A FedEx Day is a day set aside where everyone in the company works on something that they are personally inspired to work on and t... DMC Attains Most Siemens Certified Engineers in the USA
DMC just attained a rather significant milestone - we now have eight people who have met all of the requirements for the Global Technical Certification in the SIMATIC Technology areas of S7 PLCs, SIMATIC HMIs, and SIMATIC Networking. This is signifcant from several points of view.  The first is that the certification test is, quite bluntly, pretty darn hard - I think the pass rate is le... [Read the rest of this blog...]
Switch to Drive, Smoothies & More
We have always had a tremendous learning culture at DMC and, in October, we started a business book club to have some shared experiences kicked off with some shared smoothies.  The first book we started off with wasSwitch: How to Change Things When Change Is Hard by Dan & Chip Heath.  A Quick Synopsis Switch advocates creating and continuing change through mo... Working at DMC Videos - & a Blooper Reel
On August 13, 2010, DMC had an all day offsite company meeting. We boated up the Chicago River to Ping Tom Park in China Town & recorded a bunch of videos - trying to capture some of the experience of what it's like to work at DMC & what we do. Last month I posted a blog describing the day along with a couple of raw videos.  We did some editing work on the video content and put toget... [Read the rest of this blog...]
DMC Continues to Expand
I am very proud to announce two new members have recently joined the DMC Team - William Mortl & Jason Mayes.  Both of them are stellar additions to our team and both were educated in Indiana, putting the DMC Hoosier Quotient (DHQ) at an all-time high. William joins DMC as a Senior Application Developer.  He has an extremely diverse background in application ... [Read the rest of this blog...]
DMC Fun on, and off, and in, the Water
Like we do about three times a year, we had an all-company all day off-site meeting last Friday.  The agenda for the day was pretty fantastic - we all loaded up on my boat at Belmont Harbor (maybe a little crowded), headed south to the Chicago Harbor Lock, & then down the river to Ping Tom Park. Once at Ping Tom Park, we broke up into several small groups and handed video cameras to... [Read the rest of this blog...]
Happy 14th Anniversary DMC!
Remember When, 1996: "Macarena" was at the top of the charts NBC had 8 of the top 10 shows, including ER, Seinfeld & Friends, (and you could record those shows using a state of the art Hi-Fi 4-head VCR), Gas was going for about $1.25/gallon With a 100Mhz WinBook XP5, with 16MB RAM & an 810 MB HDD, a little bit of knowledge, and a lot to learn, I started DMC on July 29... Bastille Day 2010
Ok, we really knew about this from the the Shamrock Shuffle earlier this year, but Johnathan Sullivan is now, without any ambiguity, proclaimed: "World's Fastest Engineer who works at DMC" I enjoyed being in that esteemed position for a short period (although my standing had one more modifier - see here). Team DMC had a fantastic showing in the Chicago Bastille Day 5K, held in Lincoln Park on ... [Read the rest of this blog...]
