DMC's Oktoberfest Open House
On October 20th we hosted an open house at DMC's new office for our first ever Oktoberfest.  Since I've heard that a picture can be worth 0b1111101000 words, I figured I'd save most of my prose and let the pictures below do the talking. Also, there's a really exciting video at the bottom if you want to just skip to that.   *Click an image to enlarge   Anjali at the welcome tab... [Read the rest of this blog...]
As many of you may know, we used last week’s Oktoberfest party as an unofficial house warming party for our new office space. In addition to having a great turnout despite uncooperative weather, the Kinect Demo team from FedEx Day 2010 put in some extra hours to get our new display case setup to welcome guests. If you haven’t seen the display case, an early video is available here,... Ziplining and Customer Service
A few times each year DMC holds an all-day company meeting. It's a chance for all of our team members to discuss our goals and have some fun together. Past meetings have taken us anywhere from Chicago's waterfront, to an improv session, to the Melrose Park Grand Prix. For our most recent all-day company we chartered a bus and took the entire to the treetop canopies of Wisconsin. On the trip... [Read the rest of this blog...]

DMC Attains Most Siemens Certified Engineers in the USA
DMC just attained a rather significant milestone - we now have eight people who have met all of the requirements for the Global Technical Certification in the SIMATIC Technology areas of S7 PLCs, SIMATIC HMIs, and SIMATIC Networking. This is signifcant from several points of view.  The first is that the certification test is, quite bluntly, pretty darn hard - I think the pass rate is le... [Read the rest of this blog...]
Our firm started partnering with DMC in 1998 to help us integrate some machine controls with computer readouts of SPC data.  As computer technology evolved, our old 386 PC computers became obsolete fairly quickly.  While the basic 1998 machines continued to work, we experienced glitches.  Finally, we called DMC to help get us out of the jam. We have relied on DMC engineers, ... [Read the rest of this blog...]
Employee Spotlight: Ken Brey
Ken Brey, Technical Director How did you get involved with DMC back in the early days? I met Frank while we were working at a previous employer.  We would go to lunch at Sorrento’s on Friday’s and bounce ideas off of each other.  After graduating from Marquette in 1996, I was working at International Truck with no email address and no internet connection on my desktop and Frank track... Darren Jones, Project Manager Do you have any engineering hobbies? I am into motorcycling so I like to tinker with bikes.  I currently have three motorcycles, one for the street, one I completely restored several years ago,  and one dedicated race/track bike.  It's interesting that even small changes to a bike can produce significant changes in handling and performance, so I lik... Working at DMC Videos - & a Blooper Reel
On August 13, 2010, DMC had an all day offsite company meeting. We boated up the Chicago River to Ping Tom Park in China Town & recorded a bunch of videos - trying to capture some of the experience of what it's like to work at DMC & what we do. Last month I posted a blog describing the day along with a couple of raw videos.  We did some editing work on the video content and put toget... [Read the rest of this blog...]

Hit By a Bus
We talk a lot at DMC about making sure to back up your programs and to work in teams where everyone is knowledgeable enough to take over any or every part of a project. We always joke that this is in case an engineer gets, you know, “hit by a bus”. The logic is that we never want to be in a position where a project hinges on 1 person. That way, regardless of availability a DMC... [Read the rest of this blog...]
