3D Measurement and Inspection
DMC has experience in a variety of the 3D Vision technologies used for many Industrial applications:
- Precision shape measurement for production control
- Measurement of package size and shape
- Object Sorting
- Spatial Orientation for Robotic Handling
- Vehicle Guidance
- Collision Avoidance
DMC has experience integrating Off-The-Shelf 3D vision systems, as well custom embedded sloutions for low-cost OEM applications.
Employees at DMC have extensive experience with Structured Light, the most common 3D vision technology used in industry. Structured light 3D works by projecting a laser light on an object and imaging the shape with a camera. Relative motion between the laser and the part allows the entire part to be scanned.
DMC works with the following Structured Light 3D systems:
- Sick|IVP Ranger and Ruler E
- Micro-Epsilon scanCONTROL
- Matrox Iris with MIL 9.0
- Custom embedded solutions
Additionally DMC works with exciting and new 3D vision technologies, such as a Time-Of-Flight camera. A Time-Of-Flight camera works by emitting strobed light very near the camera lens, and once the light has bounced off an object and returns to the camera, the time for the light pulse to return to the camera is measured for each pixel. While accuracy is not as high as with Structure Light approach this technology provides a full 3D image in one exposure without scanning.
DMC works with the IFM Effector pmd 3D time-of-flight camera, and continues to work with new 3D vision technologies
