Pokémon Trainers of DMC

In case you've miraculously managed to avoid all of the frenzy surrounding this phenomenon, the Pokémon Go game hit App and Play stores around the world last month. Many of us at DMC are now living a double life as engineers and programmers by day and Pokémon trainers by night. From a Slack chatroom where we share tips on catching Pokémon, to hunting trips during lunch and trash-talking in the halls, we've been having a blast playing the game together. Whose Side Are We On? ...

DMC On Ice: Chicago's All-Day Company Meeting

Several times per year, DMC turns on our away messages and leaves the office for an "All-Day Company Meeting, or ADCM. These meetings mix training topics with a fun activity for a full day of company growth and bonding. DMC Chicago's latest ADCM kicked off at McFetridge Sports Center, where we rented out several tennis courts for the meeting portion of the day. Project Management Training This particular All-Day Company Meeting focused on helping employees improve project manag...

DMC's Holiday Cheer Extravaganza 2015

For the past few years, as another holiday season passes, I have observed that each holiday felt less and less like I remember. This year, the source of my waning holiday spirit finally dawned on me: I'm an adult now. I was determined to restore the festive spirit. On November 31st, I stayed at work until 8pm adorning my space with ornaments, lights and shiny silver garlands. I sprinted headfirst into December with a dazzling display of wintery cheer. Within a week or so, string lights, t...

Courier Day 2015: Creativity, Office Improvement, and Fish-Robots

Once per year, DMC holds a "FedEx Day" where all employees pause other work to dedicate an entire day to a project of their choosing. In the same vein, DMC also holds a "Courier Day" once per year, which is a shorter version of FedEx Day. Beginning with a kickoff lunch at noon and continuing until the end of the day, Courier Days are optional and no project presentation is required. With less focus on a deliverable product, Courier Day projects are usually smaller and simpler...

Messaging at the Marina for DMC Chicago's ADCM

DMC holds an off-site All Day Company Meeting twice per year where everyone takes the day off to team-build, share knowledge, and spend time together. Some of our recent All Day Company Meetings involved WhirlyBall, high wall climbing, and indoor trampolines. One meeting last year ended with everyone laying around on picnic blankets listening to managers recounting escapades from DMC's early days. Inspired by that, this year's fall ADCM broke the DMC Chicago team into grou...

DMC Goes to the Circus

DMC Goes to the Circus

Believe it or not, some companies still use fax machines for advertising. DMC gets random faxes from time to time - old printers for sale, window washing, prank faxes of cat jokes from our Boston office, etc. We usually ignore them, but a fax arrived this April that caught my attention: Corporate presale for KURIOS ending! Buy tickets now! I immediately knew that DMC had to go. KURIOS: Cabinet of Curiosities is Cirque du Soleil's latest attraction, featuring an in...

DMC Chicago's Mad Science Party

DMC proved just how cool science can be at our Chicago office's Mad Science Party on June 4th, 2015. We've held several fun themed open houses previously including a carnival, Boston Bash, and Oktoberfest, and this party was no exception. More than 140 guests joined us for a night of out-of-this-world food and drinks, zany decorations, and electrifying attractions. The rooftop deck filled up quickly due to the beautiful weather, and we think a mad scientist would have felt right at home ...

All Day Company Meetings Spring 2015

Each DMC office recently hosted an All Day Company Meeting (ADCM) in their respective cities of Chicago, Boston and Denver. A few times a year, DMC holds these offsite meetings to discuss goals and have some fun together. In the past we've had a trolley tour of Chicago, a cooking class, and improv lessons at Wrigley Field. This ADCM focused on customer service, factory safety initiatives and quality control for engineers while the Microsoft Consulting and Administrative teams conducted ...

Swashbuckling on Chicago's Lake Michigan

Five new employees started all around the same time last month, so we decided to combine our welcome parties into one big hurrah. Travelling to the eastern seas of the Midwest (i.e. Lake Michigan) we sallied forth into the unknown waters of pirating. Below, a few of my fellow welcome party recipients share their favorite parts of the adventure. “DMC now has one more area of expertise to add to its repertoire; sailing tall ships! We were trained by what we are sure was a real-life pirate...
