DMC Houston Helps with Hurricane Recovery Two Years After Harvey
Bright and early on a muggy Sunday morning in Houston, five engineers gathered to spend the day painting walls and pulling nails.
Though it was over two years ago that Hurricane Harvey, the wettest tropical cyclone in US history, hit Southeast-Texas and Louisiana, some residents are still living with stripped concrete floors and missing drywall from the flood salvaging. West Street Recovery, an organization born in the immediate aftermath of Harvey, recognized this problem and has been performing home repair to allow Houstonians to recover fully.
The DMC Houston office was eager to join in on this effort! Out in East Houston, the team joined in for the tail end of an ongoing home repair, where much of the walls had to be replaced. Half of the crew donned brushes and took to priming and painting the interior of the home. Not even cramping fingers could stop them from covering every nook and cranny in pleasant, eggshell-colored paint.
The other half of the crew manned hammers and pry-bars to remove nails from all the baseboards and trim. With all the nails out, the boards can be repainted and reinstalled in the home, saving the owner the cost of buying new molding.
DMC Houston had a great experience bonding over some manual labor and looks forward to the next opportunity to give back!
