PackML CPG Template State Machine Implementation for High-Speed Packaging Machine

DMC used the PackML State Machine architecture to program a packaging machine for a food and beverage company. The machine coordinates the motion of several servo motors that together package a variable number of products at high speeds. This project was part of the customer’s larger initiative to revamp their packaging machines.

Quickly Developing Prototypes with Siemens S7-1200 PLC

DMC utilized a Siemens S7-1200 to program the controls for a prototype household appliance with two stepper drives. Typically, the application is geared toward embedded hardware. However, DMC utilized the low-cost PLC to implement a flexible solution to fit the client’s budget and schedule constraints. This made it possible for the client to invest less money to build a functional prototype which can be used to judge market demand.

High-Speed Bottling Machine with Siemens Servos and S7-1500 PLC

DMC programmed a machine to fill small bottles of liquid at rates up to 1,000 bottles per minute, using several coordinated axes to transfer bottles between sections of the machine. Our role was to program and commission the motion aspects of the project, as well as to update existing code to use best practices with Siemens PLCs.

12-Axis Honing Machine Using Siemens SIMOTION in Scout TIA

DMC created a standard architecture in Siemens' SIMOTION Scout that has been used on a dozen large and small honing machines. This project involved building a new machine based on that architecture and was used to control a three-station honing machine with a complete part handling system and an automatic gage system.

B&R Automation Tax Stamp Application

DMC's customer designs and manufactures machines that apply thermal transfer wax stamps to taxed products. In production, the machine opens, applies as many as 30 stamps, closes, and seals up to 90 products per minute. DMC troubleshot and modified the B&R programming so that the machines would run more reliably and require fewer stops.

High Speed Pharmaceutical Vision Inspection

DMC developed an eight-camera vision system to integrate with a pharmaceutical pill manufacturing system. The vision system used National Instruments’ Embedded Vision System and Basler Ace cameras to inspect each pill in order to verify that the pill was not cracked or damaged, preventing the delivery of an incorrect dosage to a patient through a cracked pill.

Motor Endurance Test

DMC programmed a multi-station motor endurance test system. The system utilized National Instruments hardware and software to control motors, monitor performance, and collect data throughout 500 hour endurance tests. Magtrol dynamometers apply a load to each motor and a PID control loop maintains the appropriate motor current, as specified by the test sequence. An autotuning algorithm allows the user to easily configure the system for any size motor and brake.

AB RSLogix to Siemens S7 Conversion

DMC developed the PLC and HMI program for a high-throughput automated valve application machine. The machine stamped one-way air valves onto the packaging material in order to ensure coffee placed in the bag would remain fresh as long as possible. The system included interfaces to multiple outside systems including several smart camera vision check stations, a precision servo stamping mechanism, and another manufacturer’s downstream production lines
