NI Week 2012 Wrap Up - Customizing Windows Embedded

The days have certainly flown by, and, I’m sad to say, NI Week 2012 has run its course. The last day was shorter and leaner than the others, so, unfortunately, none of the sessions really stood out to me. I did learn a little more about TestStand and sat in on a session on Network Connection Managers that reaffirmed a lot of DMC’s decisions in developing the network messaging daemon that we use. I also got an interesting look from JKI at a Continuous Integration implem...

NI Week 2012 - Data Acquisition Done Right - Happy .NET Day!

The third day of NI Week 2012 proved the age old adage that the third day of a conference is always the best. If you read my first NI Week post, you probably knew that this was coming, and even though there were only 2 sessions that really appealed to me today, both were focused on using NI with .NET. Anyone with a significant .NET background who has also worked with LabVIEW has probably stumbled on NI’s .NET tool, Measurement Studio. I know to some that NI providing .NET tools sounds k...

NI Week 2012 - Robot Summit

It’s already day 2 of NI Week 2012, and it feels like things are really moving fast. In the same way, I broke out my goals for NI Week, I’ve been trying to focus each of the 4 days more or less on a specific theme. In light of that, I took day 2 to treat myself to a predominately robot themed day, favoring a number of the sessions on this year's “Robotics and Autonomous Vehicles Summit.” It seems like maybe that little bird at NI reads my blog because the first thing ...

Looking Forward - November 2011

Most of our blogs are about things we've already done or projects we've already completed. A fairly recent Freakonomics podcast talked about "The Folly of Prediction," and, being a pretty strong believer in Freakonomics wisdom, I'm not one to make bold predictions. With that said, there are some exciting things that will be happening with a fair degree of certainty over the next several months: We are continuing to hire. In addition to our college recruiting effort...

DMC's Quinceañera

DMC's Quinceañera

About a year ago, I wrote a blog on DMC’s fourteenth anniversary, looking back on our first 14 years. Now, DMC has reached its fifteenth year, and at this time of our quinceañera, so to speak, I wanted to again reflect on where we've been. Since I can’t rewrite my blog from last year, I figured I would mix it up a bit and talk about some of the fun things that DMC has done over the last year or so. A lot of things stand out looking back on the past year. An all day, all-com...

Hello Elston - Take 1

In a previous blog post, I discussed our upcoming move from 1333 N. Kingsbury in Chicago to our new address: 2222 N. Elston Ave, Suite 200 Chicago, IL 60614 Our main phone remains the same - 312-255-8757 and we even kept the same email addresses. Also of note, Tim Jager posted a moving (pun really wasn't intended and now that it's there I can't come up with a better word) video saying Farewell to Kingsbury. We moved in at the beginning of May and the best thing about the m...

Farewell Kingsbury

Farewell Kingsbury

This past Friday (April 29th), we started and......several hours later....finished our move from 1333 Kingsbury to 2222 Elston. It was pretty crazy as we (and a team of movers) dismantled the place and hauled everything to the new building. I took a video of the aftermath. Even though the place looks totally trashed, It was a really good space for DMC over the past 7 years. Kingsbury was definitely the Millennium Falcon of offices: "She may not look like much, but she's got it where it ...

DMC is on the Move

After seven years, DMC is moving at the end of April.  The primary reason for the move is more space, as we are continuing to grow. Our new address. which will be communicated multiple times in the coming months, is: 2222 N. Elston Avenue 2nd Floor Chicago, IL 60614 Benefits of the new space include better parking for our customers, a rooftop deck, a really cool interactive display case and a lot more collaboration space. In a nod to our history, we will be naming me...
