Welcoming New Employees with a Chicago Boat Tour

DMC has many traditions, and one is that every new employee gets their own welcome party. With eight people in my new hire group, we decided to combine some of our parties into a mega welcome party. John, Kirsten, and I thought the best way to see Chicago was on the Wendella Lake & River Tour, an architectural adventure which wraps around the Chicago River and then takes you through the lock onto Lake Michigan near Navy Pier for views of every part of downtown.  Delicious Eats ...

DMC Under the Big Top at Cirque du Soleil - Luzia

When you work for an ever-growing company, it can be hard to find time to get to know everyone you work with. In an effort to bring employees closer together (and to have fun), DMC supports employee-planned activities with a monthly activity fund for each of our six offices. Chicago is a great city for planning these events. After DMC saw Cirque du Soleil's KURIOS: Cabinet of Curiosities several years ago, we decided to go back to the cirque. Each show is unique a...

Happy Birthday: DMC Turns 21

Do you remember counting down to your 21st birthday? On Friday, August 4, we headed up to DMC Chicago's rooftop to celebrate our 21st anniversary party!  I have to admit, DMC has been drinking "underage" for some time now, but that didn’t make this monumental birthday any less special. Not surprisingly, food was our top priority. We hired a grill master to help us prepare the main course, while several employees brought delicious sides. It will be a while...

DIY Dog Tracker Using Bluetooth and Power BI

DMC routinely completes projects involving a variety of technologies including Bluetooth connected devices and web-based API’s. During a recent FedEx Day, where everyone in the company works on a project that interests them and that they think will improve DMC, we decided to combine a few of those technologies and create a system for tracking the locations of our many office dogs! Getting Started FedEx Day requires that a project is completed in the span of FedEx day. Depending on th...

Sharpening Our Skills at Thunderbolt Axe Throwing

DMC loves a good company kickball or volleyball game, but sometimes we like a change of pace. If you're also looking for an out of the ordinary activity in Chicago, it might be try something a little edgier. For though we're in the the height of summer, we all know Winter is Coming, and there's only one reasonable course of action - it's time to learn to throw axes.  Razor Sharp Fun A group of DMCers recently visited Thunderbolt ...

DMC Campus Career Fair Tour 2017

Another school year is starting, and for DMC that means visiting campus career fairs! So far, 2017 has been a big year for DMC. We added a sixth office, hired a ton of new employees, and were once again voted one of the best places to work by Crain’s Chicago Business. DMC continually makes strides to grow and improve as a company, and we are always looking for talented individuals that can help us achieve our goals.  Why work for DMC? DMC provides M...

DMC Explores California Wine Country

In case you didn't know, we like to have fun here at DMC. That can range from rooftop happy hours to weekend getaways we call YOEs (yearly office events). Recently, a bunch of DMC employees from different offices were scattered across the West Coast, so we decided to meet up. We did something fun and new for everyone - visit Sonoma, CA! Travel In Tandem We met up on Friday, ready for a bright and early Saturday outing. Our first stop was Spoke Folk Cyclery to pick up our transp...

DMC Hits the Trails: Mountain Biking in Lake Tahoe

After heading west for a client project, Leigh Matthews and I recently decided to hit the trails for some mountain biking around the Nevada side of Lake Tahoe in the Sierra Nevada mountain range. The incredible topography of the area was a big change for us, coming from the Houston and Chicago offices respectively. We chose to bike the Flume Trail, a one-way, 14-mile ride at 7000’ to 8000’ feet in elevation. For perspective, the elevation of DMC's Chicago office is at an ...

DMC Chicago YOE was Boat-tastic

With such harsh winters, Chicagoans make the most of their summers. Between attending free movies in Millennium Park every Tuesday night or food truck festivals on the weekends, there's never a boring day during Summertime-Chi. So, there were high expectations for DMC Chicago to host its second annual Yearly Office Event (YOE). Each DMC office hosts a YOE every year for visitors from our other offices. It's a great chance to enjoy fun activities together and relax with co-wo...

Low Cost Function Generator Amplifier DIY

Low Cost Function Generator Amplifier DIY

Introduction A majority of function generators are only capable of driving a couple hundred milliamps, which is fine for most applications. If you want more output current, you can shell out $400 dollars for a professional signal generator amplifier, or you can do what I did and hack one together for under $40. A signal generator is an indispensable tool for developing and testing electronic designs. You may find yourself wishing yours could output more current. You could test your po...

DMC Takes a Stroll for PAWS 17th Annual 5K Walk/Run

On Sunday, June 4th, a group of DMCers and friends got together for the 17th Annual PAWS Chicago 5K Walk/Run along Lake Michigan at Montrose Beach. We were joined by tons of other local pet lovers. The dog to human ratio was very close to 50/50, and the air was filled with the sounds of lots of happy yips, barks, and panting. What is PAWS? Nearly 9,000 cats and dogs are euthanized in Chicago each year because they don’t have a home, but PAWS Chicago finds homes for h...

DMC Houston Hosts Another Texas-Sized YOE

Remember last year when DMC employees went down to Texas to check out our Houston office for the first ever Houston YOE? Well, we did it again!  What is a YOE anyway? DMC’s YOEs, or Yearly Office Events, are a partially sponsored gathering of DMC employees and their friends that each of our six offices hosts near their location. In Denver, we go skiing, in Chicago, we go to the lake, Boston likes to head to the shore, and our newest offices (New York and St. Louis) ...

Cooking Up New Ideas (and BBQ) at DMC's FedEx Day

DMC recently held another one of our favorite company-wide traditions... FedEx Day! On FedEx Day, everyone in the company takes a break from their day-to-day tasks and works on a project that they think will improve DMC. It's a great opportunity to collaborate with people we don't normally work with, develop new skills, and have fun. It's called a FedEx Day because the planned project must be delivered by the end of the day. With five offices and more employees than ever, the...
