DMC Trivia Competition Welcome Party

DMC Trivia Competition Welcome Party

For my DMC welcome party, I joined in with two other employees, Molly and Kevin, to hold a shared celebration at a local bar's trivia competition. It should come as no surprise that a lot of us are trivia fiends given DMC's Core Values of hiring smart people and having fun! While some DMC employees had attended the bar's Monday trivia nights in the past as activity fund events, this was the first time we had the entire back room to ourselves. With a ton of beer...

DMC Ping Pong App Upgrade 2.0

Anyone who has visited DMC's Chicago office knows that we love a good game of ping pong. We have an internally-developed DMC Ping Pong App to keep track of final scores from each game and generate rankings to show just how awesome (or not awesome) each employee is. During FedEx Day 2014, Jordan and Sudeep set up a .NET library for interfacing to a GoPro camera via Wi-Fi that allowed control of primary camera functions. The GoPro .NET library was then used to implement a .NET console app that...

DMC Chicago's Mad Science Party

DMC proved just how cool science can be at our Chicago office's Mad Science Party on June 4th, 2015. We've held several fun themed open houses previously including a carnival, Boston Bash, and Oktoberfest, and this party was no exception. More than 140 guests joined us for a night of out-of-this-world food and drinks, zany decorations, and electrifying attractions. The rooftop deck filled up quickly due to the beautiful weather, and we think a mad scientist would have felt right at home ...

Chicago Fly Fishing Excursion

Chicago Fly Fishing Excursion

As a new employee at DMC Chicago, I’m quickly learning just how easy it is to plan exciting outings with my fellow coworkers. At our first mentor lunch, Gareth and I were musing on how much we wanted to learn how to fly fish. With some planning from Gareth and a survey to gauge interest, two weeks later we were out on the North Pond in Lincoln Park with 21 DMCers and Chicago Fly Fishing Outfitters learning the basics.  The class walked us through the general premise of fly fishing,...

Wait Wait... Don't Tell DMC!

Earlier this month, in a desperate, yet ultimately futile, attempt to take our minds off the increasingly frigid weather, DMCers from the Chicago office sought refuge in the warm embrace of National Public Radio. Not with tote bags or endless donation requests, but with the hit show Wait Wait…Don’t Tell Me! Don’t let the over-punctuated name fool you, WWDTM (as it’s known to insiders who love acronyms and write blogs), is full of laughs and sharp insights into the week&r...

Holiday Cheer in 2014 at DMC Chicago

The, now annual, DMC Holiday Cheer party lets DMC engineers, consultants, and employees relax with their families over good food, gifts, and laugher. Just as last year, our special guest was Santa Claus, and he not only took pictures with kids, families, and couples, but he also sang Christmas carols with everyone.  The kids decorated giant gingerbread men and engaged in an intense candy cane hut throughout the office while the adults drank delicious seasonal beer and other holiday libat...

This time the teams were: Team A Devon Megan Matt Sudeep Team B Tim Katherine Simon Gareth The play commenced on the lakefront 9-hole course of Sydney R. Moravitz two hours before dusk. The day brought some impressive long drives on the sporadic par five holes as well as continual improvement from the ...

Swashbuckling on Chicago's Lake Michigan

Five new employees started all around the same time last month, so we decided to combine our welcome parties into one big hurrah. Travelling to the eastern seas of the Midwest (i.e. Lake Michigan) we sallied forth into the unknown waters of pirating. Below, a few of my fellow welcome party recipients share their favorite parts of the adventure. “DMC now has one more area of expertise to add to its repertoire; sailing tall ships! We were trained by what we are sure was a real-life pirate...

Oktoberfest 2014 Chicago Tops Them All

DMC hosted its fourth annual Oktoberfest Party this past week at our Chicago office. The success of our 2011, 2012 and 2013 Oktoberfest gatherings has become renowned among our clients, vendors, friends and family, so the party was sure to be packed. This year was no different, and with over 200 attendees, Oktoberfest 2014 Chicago will likely go down in DMC history with equal gusto. We out did ourselves with food this year adding to the normal brats and German Potato Salad a whole slew of veg...

'Lions, Tigers, and Brews' Proves Fun Despite Blustery Day

When the opportunity arose to go to the already-awesome Lincoln Park Zoo in order to taste 150 plus awesome beers, I knew many at DMC couldn’t resist. Sure enough, sixteen people from DMC signed up for the Lions, Tigers, and Brews event, so we headed down to the zoo for some Friday night fun. First we tried out some of the bigger, more popular breweries such as Founders and Goose Island. We experienced these old familiars under the watchful eye of the tiger, who was outside watching the...

DMC Comic: Engineers Go to a Tech Conference

Engineers are known for being serious about their work, but we leave plenty of room for laughs. At DMC, we have a fondness for humor of the geeky variety. This month our group of engineers headed to a tech conference. Post your ideas of where our engineers should go next month in the 'Comments' section below, and you might see your suggestion featured in an upcoming comic! SWAG:

NI Week 2014 Recap

DMC had a great time at NI Week 2014, held in Austin, Texas. The convention was a chance for those working in the fields of engineering and science to come together and learn about new National Instruments hardware and LabVIEW technology, as well as plans for future developments. DMC sent engineers from our Chicago, Boston, and Denver offices to represent the work we do for our clients and to honor our affiliation with National Instruments.  This was my first NIWeek, and having heard gre...
