This is only my second month at DMC, and so far everything is going great.

I’ve had the opportunity to work for a couple of exceptional companies prior to DMC, and so my expectations of what a great job ought to be were already pretty high. DMC, though, has exceeded all my expectations.

Everyone at DMC did a lot of little things to make me feel welcome and to help me hit the ground running. I got to the office on Day One and everything was ready to go; even my business cards were already there. No other job has had business cards ready for me on Day One! Small things like that went a long way towards making me feel both excited and at ease about this new position.

It was with good reason that DMC put in such effort to jumpstart my assimilation into the company and culture: they expected the same of me. By the end of my first week I was already deploying new code to our company SharePoint server, and it wasn’t long after that I was helping out on customer projects. DMC has figured out how you make engineers happy: you give them real work to do.

I was also lucky enough to start just before FedEx Day. FedEx Day is an entire day devoted to working on internal projects. The rule is that you have to deliver your project within 24 hours, hence the name of the day. It was neat to see everyone collaborating in order to get their projects done. DMC made me feel incredibly welcome. There was even a welcome lunch on my first day. People who didn’t make it to the lunch later introduced themselves in the hallway. My manager scheduled time with me to make sure things were going well. And of course, there was my welcome party. I chose Headquarters Beercade, figuring it’d be fun to see how my new colleagues perform at some classic video games.

I think the most popular games ended up being Frogger, Tapper, and various forms of pinball. It was a fun evening, and it was great to get to know my coworkers outside of the office. I’m looking forward to future DMC parties.

And having been to the original Oktoberfest in Munich eight times, I am eager to see how DMC’s Oktoberfest stacks up. Judging by how things have gone so far, I’m sure it will be a blast.
