DMC does Goat Yoga

This month, several DMC Chicago team members were lucky enough to participate in Goat Yoga as a team building activity at the Garfield Park Conservatory. Goat yoga is the latest yoga trend where baby goats run around the participants, climb on their backs, and make everyone smile during the class. We had three new employees attend this event, Justine (Accounting), Anna (Marketing), and myself (Marketing). This was an excellent way to introduce ourselves to some of our...

DMC Travels to Washington and Advocates for Technology Policy Changes

This Spring, I traveled to Washington DC and met with a congregation of other leaders in the technology industry at the invitation of Microsoft’s advocacy organization, Voices for Innovation. The occasion was an “advocacy blitz” that the group had planned for the following day to inform senators and representatives from all states about issues that directly affect the technology industry. I received an invitation to join the three member delegation from Illinois in DC to adv...

Houston Rockets Basketball Welcome Party

Houston Rockets Basketball Welcome Party

One of the best things about your first few weeks working at DMC is that you get to host a welcome party of your choice! As an avid fan of basketball, I chose to go to a Houston Rocket’s game and took the Houston office with me. After a catered dinner at the office, we carpooled over to the stadium. I will watch almost any basketball game alone and enjoy myself, but being at the game with the DMC Houston team made it even more fun. It allowed us to hang out and bond outside the office, ...

DMSki Denver: The Gang Goes Skiing

This March, I took part in a long weekend of snow and smarts with some of DMC’s finest brains. Each DMC office is empowered to plan a yearly fun event and invite everyone in the company. We’ve climbed mountains, floated down rivers, and ran away to Martha’s Vineyard. DMC's Denver office plans an annual ski trip, nicknamed DMSki. DMC helps foot part of the bill and even lets us invite someone who doesn’t work for DMC to come along as a guest! We call these events YO...

DMC Goes Glam at the Last Speakeasy

DMCers in Chicago recently celebrated the 84th anniversary of the repeal of prohibition in style at the Chicago History Museum's annual Last Speakeasy. In what has become a DMC tradition, we donned our flapper dresses and fedoras and bundled up as best we could to take a step back in time for a few hours.  The museum pulls out all the stops, filling up every available space with entertainment, food, and intriguing exhibits. There was a visit from John Russick, CHM'...

Hawaiian Shirt Fridays

Hawaiian Shirt Fridays

I bought my first Hawaiian shirt (which is still in my rotation) in Orange Beach, Alabama during spring break of 2001. Since then, Hawaiian Shirt Friday has become a personal tradition of mine lasting the last dozen or so years. At my two previous jobs, it remained a personal tradition, and there was never any doubt in my mind that I would continue my tradition at DMC. However, while it took a while to start catching on, here at DMC it’s become more than just a personal tradition, and t...

Cooking with Chicago Kids at Healthy Start

DMC Cares is an initiative that started at one of our All Day Company Meetings, or ADCMs. For this ADCM, we split into teams and given an envelope, contents unknown. I’ll never forget opening it to find $500 and instructions to make an impact in Chicago by "paying it forward." My team thought a lot about causes that were important to us and went all over the city to distribute the money to each cause. Hello Healthy Start In my personal life, I’ve volunteered w...

DMC Chicago's Ferris Bueller-Style Day Off

One of DMC's favorite traditions involves taking a "day off" from our regular tasks. DMC Chicago recently held another ADCM, or All Day Company Meeting. This event allows us to spend time team building, having fun, and sharing knowledge through an ever-changing agenda of fun, learning, or volunteering. We've tried out everything from WhirlyBall to ice skating to boating in Lake Michigan. A few years ago, our ADCM was Ferris Bueller-themed for DMC's Day Off. We decid...
