DMC at the 2011 Siemens Automation Summit

DMC at the 2011 Siemens Automation Summit

As a proud Siemens Solution Partner, DMC always looks forward to participating in the annual Siemens Automation Summit. Each year, the Summit offers attendees several days of engaging demonstrations, networking opportunities, and other breakout events focusing on the end-user. Tim Jager, Nick Shea, and I attended the 2011 Automation Summit from June 27-30 at Disney's Yacht and Beach Club Resorts in Orlando, FL.

Connecting the User Community
This year, DMC helped conceive and develop a unique new networking event called the Connect Event. Likened to “speed networking,” it was initiated as a fun and interactive way for Siemens Solution partners and users to connect on a personal level and grow the community. Sponsored by Siemens Solution Partners, all attendees received an iPad for use during the event. Their interaction with the iPads will be the subject of an ongoing yearlong research project to gauge how tablet computer technology is utilized in the industrial automation world.

Continued Customer Excellence
DMC was the proud recipient of the  Siemens Customer Excellence Award.  This award is given annually to companies that have consistently displayed outstanding technological leadership with Siemens products.

Raj Batra, President of Siemens Industry Automation Division, says “Siemens’ Customer Excellence Award recognizes companies that are using our innovative technologies and products to achieve operational and business goals.”

Other award winners included DuPont Chemical and Anheuser Busch.

Sharing S7 Tips and Tricks
DMC's Nick Shea presented a list of the top 10 tips and tricks for maximizing the capabilities of S7 PLCs & HMIs at the Summit.

Imparting S7 Insights and Experience
Over the years DMC has encountered numerous applications written by novices and seen first-hand some of the more common errors made. DMC's Tim Jager presented the Top Ten Programming Mistakes Made by People New to Siemens, including specific examples of coding, architecture and configuration mistakes, how to avoid them, and leveraging the advantages of the Step 7 platform.

The Siemens Automation Summit is always a wonderful opportunity for interacting and learning with our peer companies and this year was no exception. DMC looks forward to another exciting Summit next year.
