Virtual Trivia Night

Virtual Trivia Night

At DMC, we're proud of our company culture and connection to our colleagues both inside and out of work hours. While we can't hang out in person right now, we recently brainstormed ways to stay connected while staying safe during the pandemic.

Virtual Trivia

I hosted a virtual trivia night using Zoom on July 29 after work. I thought it would be a fun way to bring people together remotely. Since most people are familiar with trivia, it was easy for anyone to join without having to learn something new.

Since I knew I wouldn’t be smarter than the people attending the trivia, I didn't want to write my own questions. There are several trivia services available online, and for a small investment, I chose Quizrunners. I received a PowerPoint with the questions put together, so it was easy to start hosting.

On the night of trivia, I divided about 13 attendees into teams and we all called in via Zoom. I displayed the questions on my screen and gave the teams about a minute to enter their answers. Meanwhile, the teams called each other using Slack to confer on their answers.

Brain Teasers

I wanted a set of questions that would be inclusive for any attendee, including significant others, so they were all over the place! Some of the categories included "famous Patricks" and "songs featuring acoustic guitar." One question stumped everyone—see if you can guess it without looking up the answer. "What is the coldest capital city in the world?"

After two and a half hours, Team Dunkin was crowned the trivia champs. The team of Liz Rapoport, Lillian Walker, Tim Hermann, Carolyn Holthouse, and Kevin Service led from the first round through the whole game!

Here's what Carolyn had to say about the trivia night:

First off, many thanks to Phil for organizing yet another fun and creative socially distanced activity fund!

My team (now reigning DMC Trivia CHAMPS) had a blast with all the categories. All team member pets made special guest appearances on our video call. I always learn new things during trivia - this time that the zipper was originally called a "clasp locker" and that Lillian and I have the same taste in quarantine binge-worthy TV dramas.

I'm happy to say that trivia was a success and everyone had a great time! I'm looking forward to future virtual activity fund events.
