Escape to the Hudson Valley: NYC YOE 2018

Escape to the Hudson Valley: NYC YOE 2018

In October, DMC New York took celebrated the fall weather by heading up to the Hudson Valley. DMCers near and far traveled to New York to enjoy autumnal activities and taking a break from city life. We headed out of NYC on Friday afternoon for a weekend of fun fall activities.

What is a YOE anyway?

The YOE, or Yearly Office Event, is when each office hosts a weekend of fun annually. In Denver, we usually go skiing. In Boston, we typically hit the Cape. The YOE is a wonderful way for employees from every office to get together and bond outside of work.

Campfires and S’mores Galore

On our first night, we decided to take advantage of the multiple fire pits around the Airbnb to roast s’mores and catch up with coworkers across offices. As the night got chilly, we moved indoors and got out the puzzles and board games, including DMC New York favorites Codenames and Blokus.

Adventure at Barton Orchards

After a morning spent avoiding the rain, the group ventured to a local apple orchard to pick apples. We discovered plenty of activities along the way.

Our first stop was to fuel up on some fresh apple cider donuts! Ever since our return from this trip, we’ve been trying to find another apple cider donut, but nothing has quite lived up to these.

Looking for a way to channel our sugary energy, we tried our luck in the corn maze. Emily lead the group in our mission to find clues throughout the maze...

…but eventually the maze got the better of us, and we split up!

After a successful escape from the maze, we headed over to the “fun park” to see what adventures awaited. We were most interested in what the website only described as “bouncy ponies,” and we were not disappointed when we found two different types of ponies that seemed to be somewhat bouncy.

Before leaving, we had to stock up on freshly picked apples. While we were a bit late in the season, we searched high and low for a few great picks!

With plenty of apples, great memories, and a new friend or two, it was time to head back to the Airbnb!

Hiking Breakneck Ridge

On our last day, we took in some scenic views and braved the ominous-sounding Breakneck Ridge trail. After a weekend of relaxing with DMCers and friends, this was the perfect way to take in a little bit more nature before heading back to the city.

The DMC NYC team was happy to get out of the bustling city for a few days and enjoy some nice time in nature. We had an excellent trip together and hope to return soon! All in all, the NYOE was a huge success.
