Hello Elston - Take 1

In a previous blog post, I discussed our upcoming move from 1333 N. Kingsbury in Chicago to our new address: 2222 N. Elston Ave, Suite 200 Chicago, IL 60614 Our main phone remains the same - 312-255-8757 and we even kept the same email addresses. Also of note, Tim Jager posted a moving (pun really wasn't intended and now that it's there I can't come up with a better word) video saying Farewell to Kingsbury. We moved in at the beginning of May and the best thing about the m...

Farewell Kingsbury

Farewell Kingsbury

This past Friday (April 29th), we started and......several hours later....finished our move from 1333 Kingsbury to 2222 Elston. It was pretty crazy as we (and a team of movers) dismantled the place and hauled everything to the new building. I took a video of the aftermath. Even though the place looks totally trashed, It was a really good space for DMC over the past 7 years. Kingsbury was definitely the Millennium Falcon of offices: "She may not look like much, but she's got it where it ...

DMC is on the Move

After seven years, DMC is moving at the end of April.  The primary reason for the move is more space, as we are continuing to grow. Our new address. which will be communicated multiple times in the coming months, is: 2222 N. Elston Avenue 2nd Floor Chicago, IL 60614 Benefits of the new space include better parking for our customers, a rooftop deck, a really cool interactive display case and a lot more collaboration space. In a nod to our history, we will be naming me...

DMC Attains Most Siemens Certified Engineers in the USA

DMC just attained a rather significant milestone - we now have eight people who have met all of the requirements for the Global Technical Certification in the SIMATIC Technology areas of S7 PLCs, SIMATIC HMIs, and SIMATIC Networking. This is signifcant from several points of view.  The first is that the certification test is, quite bluntly, pretty darn hard - I think the pass rate is less than 40%.  Secondly, in order to be part of the Siemens Solution Partner Program, an integra...

DMC Fun on, and off, and in, the Water

Like we do about three times a year, we had an all-company all day off-site meeting last Friday. The agenda for the day was pretty fantastic - we all loaded up on my boat at Belmont Harbor (maybe a little crowded), headed south to the Chicago Harbor Lock, & then down the river to Ping Tom Park. Once at Ping Tom Park, we broke up into several small groups and handed video cameras to each group with the mission of recording stories that capture DMC's culture, capabilities, lessons learn...

Happy 14th Anniversary DMC!

Remember When, 1996: "Macarena" was at the top of the charts NBC had 8 of the top 10 shows, including ER, Seinfeld & Friends, (and you could record those shows using a state of the art Hi-Fi 4-head VCR), Gas was going for about $1.25/gallon With a 100Mhz WinBook XP5, with 16MB RAM & an 810 MB HDD, a little bit of knowledge, and a lot to learn, I started DMC on July 29th. Anniversaries are a fun time to reflect on the changes that have happened over time.  ...

DMC Employee Spotlight is a new feature for our company newsletter.  Each month we will take a closer look at a different employee to learn more about the members who make up Team DMC. DMC Deploys Checklists

Taking a page from Dr. Atul Gawande’s The Checklist Manifesto, DMC has released its own set of common task checklists. Gawande, a surgeon, makes a distinction between errors of ignorance and errors of ineptitude, blaming most modern mistakes on the latter. Failures occur not due to what one doesn’t know, but because people do not properly make use of what they do know. Gawande researches highly complicated tasks including performing surgery, building skyscrapers, and flying commer...

Shamrock Shuffle 2010 & Commitment Contracts

Team DMC competed for the fifth straight year in the Shamrock Shuffle, an 8K (4.97 mile) race in downtown Chicago. This year the weather was a little wet and chilly but nowhere near as bad as last year. There was a lot of internal and external competition for this race, which I am certain helped all of us improve our health, get in a little better shape, and give some pretty impressive results in the race. DMC 2010 Shamrock Shuffle Race Results   Racer Time I...
