DMC Goes Glam at the Last Speakeasy

DMC Goes Glam at the Last Speakeasy

DMCers in Chicago recently celebrated the 84th anniversary of the repeal of prohibition in style at the Chicago History Museum's annual Last Speakeasy. In what has become a DMC tradition, we donned our flapper dresses and fedoras and bundled up as best we could to take a step back in time for a few hours.

The museum pulls out all the stops, filling up every available space with entertainment, food, and intriguing exhibits. There was a visit from John Russick, CHM's VP of Interpretation & Education who told tales about the St. Valentine's Day massacre gangsters. A chorus line known as the Galaxie Girls kicked the event into high gear, and there was even live music from the Chicago Jazz Duo, the Alan Gresik Swing Era band, and the Lakeside Pride Jazz Orchestra.

DMC Activity Fund

This outing was planned as part of DMC's Activity Fund. Members of each office are empowered to plan fun events that everyone is invited to attend, and DMC helps cover the cost! It's a perfect opportunity to de-stress and socialize with the team.

Giggle Water Please

"Giggle water," a Prohibition-era nickname for booze, was flowing like Bacchus was watching. Signature drinks of the night included the Templeton Manhattan and the Templeton Old Fashioned.

Our own Eric West played (and toasted it up) with the band.

All That Jazz

The dance floor quickly filled up with revelers ready to jive the night away.

"My favorite part of the night was trying to learn how to swing dance to show our support for Eric's band and seeing everyone dressed up in their finest 20's attire." - Carolyn Holthouse, Systems Engineer

Gambling It All On Fun

With unlimited (fake) funds, the tables at the Last Speakeasy are always hot.

"My favorite part of the evening was sipping on delicious whiskey drinks while learning to play craps. I have no experience gambling, so being in a fun, social environment while learning to play was a blast. Kudos to Tim Herrmann for taking us all to school." - Heather Talbert, Recruiting & HR

"My favorite part of the night was taking everyone's fake money at the gambling tables." - Tim Herrmann, Systems Engineer

Time Travel Train

The Chicago History Museum features a vintage 'L' train originally used to transport riders to the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition. It's a favorite spot for catching up with other party attendees.

"Upon entering the Last Speakeasy, I felt as if I was actually stepping back into the roaring 20s. Everyone was dressed to theme, with the women in flapper dresses and furs and the men in their bowties and fedora hats. The party was in true Gatsby fashion with multiple floors and rooms, each with their own theme. My favorite part of the night was spent in the main hall where we tried our luck at the craps table and attempted to Charleston to the upbeat, jazzy swing music of the big band, accompanied by our very own Eric West." - Lexi Torres, Accounting Assistant
