5 Reasons DMC Laps Michael Phelps in Technical Solutions

Michael Phelps has clearly made a splash in the Rio Olympics. The 31 year-old swimmer has grabbed a hefty six medals in this Olympics alone. Retiring with a grand total of 28 medals, Phelps is most decorated Olympian of all time. If this didn't already make him an American hero, the record medal count that he crushed was last held by Larisa Latynina of the Soviet Union with 18 medals. He also tops out the list of most individual gold medals with 13, breaking a record last set in 152 BCE...

DMC Engagement Models: Time & Expenses vs. Fixed Bid

If you talk to DMC engineers, you may find a common sentiment that many DMC projects feel less like a set of tasks that are "just a job", and much more like getting to work on a fun and engaging hobby. For those who are true engineers/developers at heart, the ability to bring something new and useful into the world provides its own reward and sense of fulfilment that can make all the effort involved seem worthwhile. But no matter how enjoyable DMC's projects are to work on, t...

Quality and Customer Success: Caterpillar in the News

DMC received some good news recently from one of our customers. Over the years, DMC has built a solid relationship with Caterpillar, working with different teams and facilities on projects involving LabVIEW, .NET, and various test systems. We were happy to learn that a project we were part of has been nominated for a corporate competition for best quality improvement project. The Caterpillar team received recognition for this in December. The recognition of our friends is great to hear abo...

DMC Customer Service Initiatives on the Rise

Way back in August before the snow and ice of this year’s “Chiberian” winter set in, we had an All Day Company Meeting where we focused on Customer Service Excellence. Out of our many brainstorming sessions that day, one of the ideas that we decided to run with was a winter-themed gift package to send to current and potential clients as well as our DMC partners.  At DMC we know that the customer is the most important part of our business. Without our clients, in fact, w...

Engineering Meets Pediatric Medicine at Lurie Children's Hospital

Being an engineer means you have unique skills to contribute to the world. These contributions can include improving quality of products, increasing efficiency, and generally allowing workers and companies to be more successful in their goals.  A recent project at DMC brought this social benefit even closer to home with the opportunity to work with the Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago.  DMC was approached with a very special need—to develop the w...

On Top of the Game at DMC Chicago's ADCM

DMC Chicago’s All Day Company Meeting (or ADCM for short) was all set for Thursday, August 18th. The theme of the day was Customer Service Excellence. The schedule, which Frank and I had spent the past week meticulously putting together, was ambitious. We figured that an hour presentation, followed by two hours of brainstorming, lunch, then an outdoor ropes course would not only be an awesome team-building, camaraderie fostering, memory-making opportunity, but would also generate some grea...

DMC Boat Cruise with Yaskawa

Friends from Yaskawa joined DMC on a voyage onto Lake Michigan after another great year of working together.  Led by Frank, the lake and weather were perfect for a relaxing evening on the water. Our first stop was the Flatwater where we enjoyed a fantastic dinner overlooking the Chicago River. Once finished, we navigated to Navy Pier where we stayed on the boat to watch Chicago’s famous fireworks. It is great that Chicago has fireworks twice a week all summer long. As a frequenter ...

Happy Employees Make Happy Customers

One of the keys to a happy customer is a happy employee, and one of the keys to a happy employee is an awesome work environment. As part of DMC’s administrative team, one of my many duties is to help ensure these conditions. In many ways, DMC administrative work is like customer service for our own employees. Aside from making sure everything is running smoothly from paychecks to printer ink, our job is to make our employees happy and to keep our work environment fun. One way we do this...

DMC's Oktoberfest Open House

On October 20th we hosted an open house at DMC's new office for our first ever Oktoberfest. Since I've heard that a picture can be worth 0b1111101000 words, I figured I'd save most of my prose and let the pictures below do the talking. Also, there's a really exciting video at the bottom if you want to just skip to that. *Click an image to enlarge Anjali at the welcome table with our fantastic Oktoberfest banner. The table is filled with our commemorative Oktoberfest ...

Ziplining and Customer Service

A few times each year DMC holds an all-day company meeting. It's a chance for all of our team members to discuss our goals and have some fun together. Past meetings have taken us anywhere from Chicago's waterfront, to an improv session, to the Melrose Park Grand Prix. For our most recent all-day company we chartered a bus and took the entire to the treetop canopies of Wisconsin. On the trip to Wisconsin, I gave a presentation on DMC's Customer Service Fundamentals, with an impr...

Hello Elston - Take 1

In a previous blog post, I discussed our upcoming move from 1333 N. Kingsbury in Chicago to our new address: 2222 N. Elston Ave, Suite 200 Chicago, IL 60614 Our main phone remains the same - 312-255-8757 and we even kept the same email addresses. DMC is on the Move

After seven years, DMC is moving at the end of April.  The primary reason for the move is more space, as we are continuing to grow. Our new address. which will be communicated multiple times in the coming months, is: 2222 N. Elston Avenue 2nd Floor Chicago, IL 60614 Benefits of the new space include better parking for our customers, a rooftop deck, a really cool interactive display case and a lot more collaboration space. DMC was happy again to volunteer for a good cause with the FIRST Tech Challenge Robot competition here in Chicago. This FTC event is the state/regional championship, where High School students bring their best ingenuity, collaboration, and teamwork for competition on the game field. In the spirit of collaboration, two teams will form an alliance on the game field, where they will compete against two other teams of another alliance. This year’s game is “Get Over It!”. Alli...

DMC Attains Most Siemens Certified Engineers in the USA

DMC just attained a rather significant milestone - we now have eight people who have met all of the requirements for the Global Technical Certification in the SIMATIC Technology areas of S7 PLCs, SIMATIC HMIs, and SIMATIC Networking. This is signifcant from several points of view.  The first is that the certification test is, quite bluntly, pretty darn hard - I think the pass rate is less than 40%.  Secondly, in order to be part of the Siemens Solution Partner Program, an integra...

Guest Blog - Bruce Nesbitt of Orion Industries

Our firm started partnering with DMC in 1998 to help us integrate some machine controls with computer readouts of SPC data.  As computer technology evolved, our old 386 PC computers became obsolete fairly quickly.  While the basic 1998 machines continued to work, we experienced glitches.  Finally, we called DMC to help get us out of the jam. We have relied on DMC engineers, particularly Ken, for our more modern machinery like six-axis robots. The old clunker machines, howe...
