DMC Makes List of Chicago's Top 5 Places to Work

DMC Has Been Named the #4 Best Place to Work in Chicago.

For the fourth consecutive year, DMC was named one of Chicago’s “Best Places to Work” by Crain's Chicago Business. Crain's highlighted DMC's continued growth and emphasis on social relationships during an awards reception held on April 6.

Companies Prioritizing Culture

Melissa Harris of the University of Chicago's Center of Entrepreneurship and Innovation hosted the event. "It's nice to see that business leaders are prioritizing workplace culture," Harris reflected in her opening remarks.

Of the 50 companies that were named "Best Places to Work" finalists by Crain's in February, the top 25 were recognized at the awards reception. Representatives from the top 10 firms shared insights on company culture and benefits.

DMC Ranked #4 in Chicago

DMC is proud to be ranked 4th out of the 195 companies that applied. Rick Rietz, Director of Consulting Services, accepted the award on behalf of DMC. He praised DMC's engaging culture and low turnover rate (5%) in a speech before about 250 Chicago business leaders. Rick highlighted DMC's bottom-up management style, noting "We take every suggestion from our employees seriously." He also praised DMC's dogmatic hiring standards and recruiting process with company-wide participation as key to DMC's continued success.

Crain's also noted DMC's commitment to fostering social relationships in the workplace in an article published April 6, 2017. DMC maintains a consistent culture across the organization by empowering employees to plan social outings that are partially subsidized by a company “activity fund.” In Chicago, a monthly $2,750 "use it or lose it" activity fund is tapped for outings like wine tastings, WhirlyBall and indoor skydiving.

"The real advantage is you end up being friends with your co-workers," said systems engineer Nicklas Thystrup. "When you work on projects together, you have more in common and there's no competition. You're helping customers solve problems."

Repeat Recognition

DMC is a project-based engineering firm focused on software development and control systems. Founded in 1996, DMC celebrated its 20th anniversary last summer.

DMC was first named to the Crain’s Top 10 “Best Places to Work” list in 2014 in addition to ranking on the “Best Places for Millennials” and “Best Places for Gen-X” lists and topping the list of “Best Places for Employee Engagement.” In 2015, DMC was again named among the best workplaces for Millennials and Gen-X employees. DMC also appeared among the "Top 10 Best Places to Work" in 2016.

Survey Method

The recognition is based on a set of employee and employer surveys of 50+ full-time employees in a local office branch. Areas surveyed included questions regarding pay, promotions, health care and other benefits, hiring practices, relationships with management and co-workers, career development, and other day-to-day workplace issues. Over 14,900 employees in the Chicago area took the survey.

Crain’s Chicago Business "Best Places to Work" issue will be released on April 10, 2017.
