A DMC Welcome by the Blue Man Group

Since DMC is so excited about adding new members to the team, every new employee receives a welcome party. DMC is fortunate to be located in the best city in the world, so there are endless party options. Every new employee chooses their welcome event, and the entire company is invited to attend, as well as significant others. In order to properly welcome Dan Lawler and myself to DMC, we decided to be entertained by the brilliant madness that is the Blue Man Group. After hittin...

DMC Celebrates Tres de Mayo

On May 3, 2012 DMC held a Tres de Mayo party for our customers, vendors, and friends. The 3-themed event was a fun way to enjoy an evening in our recently expanded office space. It was great to listen to the DMC brassband perform and to break in our rooftop deck for the season! We worked the theme of 3 in many different ways: 3D Printer Demonstrations 3D Glasses and Video Specialty Three Amigos Margaritas and Three's Company Cocktails 3 Stooges Life-size Standups 3-themed Vi...

DMC's Day Off

Each year, DMC holds about three or four all-day company meetings offsite to share ideas, discuss goals, and have a good time together.  These meetings have previously taken place anywhere from a race track to a zipline course. Most recently, DMC enjoyed a Ferris Bueller-inspired day off exploring Chicago.  The day started with a breakfast at the office and some motivation from Mr. Bueller himself. DMC then boarded a trolley to navigate our day of ...

DMC's Day Off: Sky Deck

As part of an all-day company meeting, DMC enjoyed a Ferris Bueller-inspired day off touring Chicago attractions. We had a great time riding around the city in a trolley and just hanging out together! The first stop of the day off was the Skydeck at the Sears Willis Tower. The Sky Deck offered a beautiful view of a beautiful city. It was great to start the day with incredible Chicago views and even some acrobatics from 103 stories above the city. We were ev...

DMC's Day Off: Soldier Field

DMC recently enjoyed a Ferris Bueller-inspired day off exploring Chicago attractions. As part of an all-day company meeting we had a great time hanging out together as we toured the city by trolley! One stop found us touring Soldier Field where we checked out the architecture, history, and facilities of the stadium. Seasoned Bears fans and first-time visitors alike enjoyed the opportunity to see the stadium up close. Whatever your NFL allegiance, it was ...

DMC's Day Off: Grant Park Picnic

As part of an all-day company meeting, DMC recently spend a day exploring Chicago Ferris Bueller-style. Touring the city in a trolley and hanging out together was a great way to spend a day off! Around the mid-point of DMC's Day Off, we swung by Millenium Park for a photo op at Cloud Gate aka "The Bean." DMC's next stop was a picnic lunch and pickup football game at Grant Park. It was fun to relax and enjoy the great weather and, of course, a little f...

DMC's Day Off: Rooftop Cookout

DMC's most recent all-day company meeting took us exploring all over downtown Chicago by trolley. Toward the end of the day, we headed north back toward DMC's office and stopped by the Lincoln Park Zoo. The zoo was a gorgeous place to end the day, and it gave us another impressive Chicago skyline view to admire. We wrapped up the day with a cookout back at the office on our rooftop deck. Amanda and Jimmy enjoyed beers and a game of bags on the roof....

DMC's Day Off: Navy Pier

DMC's all-day company meetings have taken us to some interesting places, but the recent DMC Day Off had us exploring downtown Chicago destinations by trolley. In the afternoon, we headed to Navy Pier, one of Chicago's most popular attractions. We took an exciting Seadog speed boat tour with great views of Chicago's lakefront. Before leaving Navy Pier, some DMCers took a spin on the Navy Pier Ferris Wheel. At 150 feet high, it gave us anot...

Employee Spotlight: Ryan Taylor

Ryan Taylor, Systems Engineer What do you like best about working at DMC? I like that I come in and do interesting work that is always different. Working at DMC gives you a diverse experience base to draw from. The lunch conversations at DMC are always fun and they never end up where they start from. Robots are usually involved and many of the Quote Board comments originate at the lunch table. Do you have any engineering hobbies? Right now, I’m working on an automatic barten...

DMC's Brassband Debut

If you attended the recent Tres de Mayo party at DMC's office, you hopefully walked out with tunes like “Basin Street Blues” or “Muskrat Ramble” stuck in your head.  As one of the founding members of the DMC brassband, I’m proud to announce that our first “gig” was a hit! We played a set of six songs during the peak of the party and filled the southern half of the office with swingin’ traditional Dixieland and brassband music. Cred...

Shamrock Shuffle 2012

On March 25, 2012, for the 7th year in a row, DMC competed in the Shamrock Shuffle, an 8K (4.98 miles) race through downtown Chicago. It was a great day for the race and we had more than respectable results. Of special note is race newcomer Dan Lawler who looks like he might be able to give Sully a run for his money. Check out posts from some of our previous races here: Hustle up the Hancock 2011 Shamrock Shuffle 2011 Chase Corporate Challenge 2011 Hustle up the Hancock ...

DMC Holiday Party Takes to the Lanes

Every year, DMC celebrates our holiday party sometime after the holidays and this year we took to the lanes at Lucky Strike. It was a great setting to socialize and, of course, enjoy some friendly competition. We even held a special bowling-themed Geek Challenge. Congrats to oncoming DMC employee Han Yang for claiming victory!

Leap Day Competition at DMC

On February 29th, DMC celebrated Leap Day with a little friendly competition.  With some tape on the floor, I set up an event court for a Standing Long Jump competition.  Standing Long Jump was an Olympic event until from 1900-1912, and I remembered it from grade school gym class.  In addition to the starting line, I marked the 3.47m Olympic record.  It seemed like an impossibly far distance, and before we started some wondered whether anybody would get halfway ther...

Jimmy's iO Welcome Party

I started at DMC two months ago and it has been a very busy two months. Since joining DMC I’ve been focused on one large project, but the project is divided up into many distinct sections and I have been involved in nearly every one the sections. I have been creating user interfaces, the control logic, hardware addressing, and what seems like a million other things. I enjoy being busy and DMC has more than enough work to keep me busy. While DMC keeps everyone active in the office, DMC a...

Beer, and Bacon, and DMC

You may or may not be surprised to learn  that beer and bacon rank highly on the favorite things list of many a DMC employee. So when we heard that Paddy Long's, a Lakeview neighborhood pub, hosts a regular Beer and Bacon Tasting, we booked a DMC social outing. Nearly twenty DMC employees and friends enjoyed the tasting of five cuts of bacon paired with five beers. The entire offering was delicious, but our table's favorites were the smoky Danish bacon and the brow...

DMC FedEx Day Redux

After the success of DMC's first FedEx Day earlier this year, we were excited to hold our second edition a few weeks ago. A FedEx Day is reserved for everyone to devote an entire day working on a company improvement project that personally inspires them. It's called a FedEx Day because the person or team must deliver something the next day, although there is some upfront prep time. DMC was inspired to try a FedEx Day after reading about it in Daniel Pink's Drive, a DMC Book Club s...

DMC's Oktoberfest Open House

On October 20th we hosted an open house at DMC's new office for our first ever Oktoberfest. Since I've heard that a picture can be worth 0b1111101000 words, I figured I'd save most of my prose and let the pictures below do the talking. Also, there's a really exciting video at the bottom if you want to just skip to that. *Click an image to enlarge Anjali at the welcome table with our fantastic Oktoberfest banner.
